2011 Year Book‎ > ‎

Year 2

As we count down very rapidly to the end of the school year, once again it is time to reflect the year that was 2010.My students were involved in a variety of activities this year and I am sure it is an unforgettable experience for them.

The year 2010 has been a great learning journey for the Year2. It was full of activities, excursions and incursions to help the children link ideas from their learning in class. We went to Caversham Wildlife Park for excursion and had a reptile incursion to link ideas from our learning about the Australian Animals. At the end of term 4, we went to Horizon-Planetarium at SciTech to recapture what we had learnt about the Solar System. We also had the Constable Care, the Harmony Day, National Literacy and Numeracy week activities, the Tree PlantingDay and the Sports Carnival; to mention the many activities we did this year.

In literacy, reading, speaking, listening, viewing and writing activities opened a new horizon for children to explore on our topics of Dinosaurs, Australian Animals, the Solar System and Water. The children had also been taking part in a variety of English learning activities such as shared and guided reading, role play, recount, narrative and persuasive writing, news telling and interactive games. These activities have improved the students’ communication skills both in the written and oral medium.

In Mathematics, the focus was to help children to acquire the ability in the use of words, numbers and to handle basic mathematical operations. In the same time, my goal was also to make Maths fun and more enjoyable in class. We played Maths games, do quizzes and organized a classroom shop during a Maths topic on Money.

In Science, T&E and Art, various stimulating and challenging activities were organized to keep the children motivated and eager to participate. In Health, we focused on skills to help identify, cope and prevent bullying. We also incorporate Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) curriculum to our Health program in Term 4. Sports and Physical education never failed to excite the children as they immersed themselves in the activities to develop their movement skills, hand-eye and foot-eye coordination and various ball games. This year, children were actively engaged during Physical Education in practising skills for the Sports Carnival.

Once again, we come to an end of another eventful year. I would like to say thank you to parents who helped during excursions and in the classroom and in any way throughout the year. To my class, all your efforts and enthusiasm are commendable and I wish you will all continue your fantastic effort next year. To my Education Assistant, Sr Laili thanks for your support in the classroom.

Finally, have a lovely summer break and all the best for 2011.  Inshallah.
