REFLECTIONS – KINDY - 3
Assalamu Alaikum..
2011 has indeed been a busy yet very fruitful year for us in Kindy – 3. I was keenly interested in teaching this year level and was delighted when I was granted a position. It presented a refreshing, exciting and challenging new role.
I have enjoyed the flexibility of teaching kindergarten. Each term lends itself to new areas of learning and new themes.

In term 1, the students were encouraged to participate in activities that centred around our theme, “All About Me”. The students were encouraged to explore their senses through various experiments and hands on activities. Students learnt all they share in common as well as all that sets them apart from others. In doing so, the students gained a better understanding of their uniqueness.
Students also enjoyed participating in Harmony Day celebrations. It was wonderful to see the students dressed in their traditional outfits.
In term 2, the students were engaged in activities based on, “Colours and Shapes”. This theme helped to explore and investigate the different shapes and colours encountered in every day life. Students discovered when two colours were mixed a third colour was produced. This sense of realisation was a novel experience for them. In this was they learnt that their world is a beautiful combination of colours and shapes.
Our first excursion for the year was to Jungle Gym. This was a fun filled experience for the students.
In term 3, the students learnt about the different Australian Animals through various stories, discussions and activities. In Technology and Enterprise, the students made dioramas. Using the Australian landscape as a backdrop, students created a wonderful scene of the various Australian animals. This activity consolidated their understanding specifically; habitats, life cycle and food habits. Students were able to make connections and see significance to what they were thinking and where their ideas were taking them.
An excursion to Caversham Wildlife Park brought further meaning and understanding to the theme. It was a very exciting and enjoyable trip.
In term 4, the students were guided to go further along in their own continuum of knowledge by learning about “Transport”. They learnt about various modes of travel; land, sea and air. The students constructed various creative models.
Our assembly item, “The Big Ship”, was simply awesome. The students put in a great deal of effort into learning the song. I commend them on their fantastic performance.
The Sports Carnival proved to be a lot of fun. The students enjoyed participating in the events.
This has been a wonderful year for me. I feel very encouraged and uplifted by the numerous joys that accompany working with children. I will always cherish the funny things said, done and the questions asked. The enthusiasm of my students have kept me going as they remind me to smile through even the most awkward moments. They have grown and developed in so many ways. I feel so happy for them and their achievements. I believe that each one of my student has the potential for success.
I would like to thank Ms Mariam, who has assisted me in all class activities. I am also grateful and appreciative for all the help and support received from my colleagues. Lastly I would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to the parents in my class for being so wonderful, supportive and helpful throughout this year. It only goes to prove that we can achieve great things when we work together as a team.
Have a great holiday!
